Ingredients
- idli rice2 cup
- urad dal1/2 cup
- methi seeds1/2 tsp
- poha (optional)2 tbsp
- salt1 tsp
- wateras needed as needed
- oil (for greasing)1 tsp
Method
- 1Rinse the idli rice with methi seeds, and the urad dal with poha separately, then soak both in plenty of water for 5-6 hours. · 10m
- 2Grind the urad dal to a light fluffy batter, grind the rice to a slightly coarse paste, then combine both with salt. · 20m
- 3Cover and leave the batter to ferment in a warm spot for 8-10 hours until doubled and bubbly. · 5m
- 4Gently stir the risen batter and grease the idli plates with a little oil. · 3m
- 5Pour batter into each mould and steam in an idli cooker for 10-12 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. · 12m
- 6Rest for 2 minutes, then scoop out the idlis and serve hot with chutney and sambar. · 2m
