- toor dal1 cup
- tamarind1 tbsp
- sambar powder2 tbsp
- mixed vegetables2 cup
- tomato1 no.
- shallots10 no.
- haldi1/2 tsp
- mustard seeds1 tsp
- curry leaves1 sprig
- hing1 pinch
- dry red chilli2 no.
- oil2 tbsp
- coriander (optional)2 tbsp
- salt1.5 tsp
Method
- 1Pressure cook the toor dal with haldi until soft, then mash it smooth. · 12m
- 2Soak tamarind in warm water and extract the pulp. · 3m
- 3Simmer the mixed vegetables, shallots and tomato in the tamarind water with sambar powder and salt until tender. · 10m
- 4Stir in the mashed dal with a little water and let it come to a gentle boil. · 5m
- 5Temper mustard seeds, dry red chilli, hing and curry leaves in oil and pour over the sambar. · 3m
- 6Garnish with coriander and serve hot with rice or idli. · 1m
