Tomato Rasam

Tomato Rasam

Ingredients

  • tomato3 no.
  • tamarind1 tsp
  • cooked toor dal1/4 cup
  • rasam powder2 tsp
  • garlic4 no.
  • jeera1 tsp
  • black pepper1 tsp
  • mustard seeds1/2 tsp
  • dry red chilli1 no.
  • curry leaves1 sprig
  • hing1 pinch
  • haldi1/4 tsp
  • ghee1 tbsp
  • coriander (optional)2 tbsp
  • salt1 tsp

Method

  1. 1Mash the tomatoes and mix with tamarind water, rasam powder, haldi, crushed garlic, salt and 2 cups of water. · 5m
  2. 2Bring the mixture to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes until the raw smell goes. · 6m
  3. 3Add the mashed dal with a little more water and heat until frothy, but do not let it boil hard. · 4m
  4. 4Temper mustard seeds, jeera, crushed pepper, dry red chilli, hing and curry leaves in ghee. · 3m
  5. 5Pour the tempering into the rasam and turn off the flame. · 1m
  6. 6Garnish with coriander and serve hot with steamed rice. · 1m
